Retuning to the scene of her last victory, LAGONDA could outrun her current odds. Venetia Williams' mare arrives on the back of a decent third at Hereford and a belated attempt over a trip this far looks worth a go. The stable are certainly in better health and the veteran seems to come alive at this time of year judged on previous campaigns.

Just like so many ex-French horses, COL DU PRE' arrived in this country with an inflated official rating. The Venetia Williams yard being quiet for the past few months obviously didn't help, but they are certainly starting to fire in the past week or so. The five-year-old travelled like the best horse when weakening into third in a class 3 at Hereford last time out and hopefully he's ready to secure a first victory in this country.

Posted his best victory over 2m4f here off 102 and subsequently ran a cracker off 110 when second over the same C&D. He’s always shaped as if he wanted further and he posted a fine runner-up effort over 2m7f on his reappearance in November. They turned him out quickly, but he wasn’t over those exertions. Easy to forgive his latest chase bow as he didn’t enjoy it. Reverting to timber on the ground he loves, I think the eight-year-old has got more to come over staying distances, with the introduction of blinkers an interesting addition

Tread Softly Now has proved progressive this season, and she shouldn't be judged harshly on her latest fourth over an inadequate 2m at Ayr last time out. She was previously collared by a subsequent winner at Kelso and is effectively only 1 lb here if taking claims into account. My only concern is not running well here before, but the seven-year-old was said to have lost her action, so I'm willing to write that run off.

The seven-year-old was just too keen reverting to timber at Kempton in November, apparently Bowen was annoyed that he didn't make more use of her in a race that turned into a sprint. Effectively 5lb lower here at a lower level, the refitting of a hood is a huge positive and never a 12/1 shot.

They upped him in trip over 3m at Aintree next time, where he travelled all over the field, but didn't see it out. Hot Rod Lincoln looked a dour stayer when winning over fences for Simon Hodgson last February (Scholfield rode). Given an easy time on his stable/seasonal bow at Lingfield 48 days ago, his new yard were still finding their feet. Scholfield took a horse from the same yard, Bollin Thou, who became a subsequent three-time winner and is now 26 lb higher in the handicap. I like to think he can improve this one as well.
